Up and Coming Northern Virginia Neighborhoods

US News and World Report recently published an article which highlighted the trending neighborhoods in the DC area. Several Northern Virginia zip codes made the prestigious list! Northern Virginia is a great place to live, with many varieties of housing styles, shopping and dining, entertainment, recreational activities, great schools, and its close proximity to civilian, military, and government employers.

Here is a brief overview of the NoVA areas which topped the US News and World Report list of “up and coming” neighborhoods.

Del Ray – If you are looking for a pet-friendly hipster village close to gourmet coffee shops, yoga, local live-music venues, and consignment stores, then look no further than Del Ray. Close to Old Towne Alexandria, the early 20th century row houses have the same historic vibe, but offer a much more affordable price tag.

Kenmore – Primarily made up of moderately-priced duplexes, this community offers the same close proximity to metro lines and dining and shopping as the nearby (and more well-known) Ashton Heights area, without the price tag. High quality construction and creative updates make the homes in this area near Arlington worth a look.

Claremont – This neighborhood is located near the buzzing commercial zone of Shirlington, and offers single-family homes which often go for less than $500,000. With easy access to nearly everything, your home-buying dollars will stretch farther in Claremont. These older homes are ready for you to breathe new life into them; the yards and driveways offer the perfect antidote for those seeking the more suburban lifestyle.

Cherrydale/Waverly Hills – The communities of Cherrydale and Waverly Hills are often overlooked because “walkability” often precluded areas that were more than a block or two from public transit. In recent years, however, these neighborhoods have seen an explosion of health and environmentally-conscious residents who are very comfortable walking or biking a little farther. Situated about a mile from public transit, this modestly-priced area is perfect for those who don’t mind a little stroll before or after work.

Pimmit Hills – This little-known neighborhood in Falls Church offers close proximity to desirable Tyson’s Corner, where you can have your fill of shops, dining, entertainment and more. Pimmit Hills is an older community with affordable homes, which attracts a lot of attention from buyers who want to build sweat equity with a fixer upper. Some buyers are also tearing down older home and replacing them with new construction.
